We just got back from another awesome trip. We got bumbed on our last flight so were able to get a free flight to visit Debbie and Eric. We flew in on Friday morning and drove straight down to Zion's National Park where my dear friend Liz was able to work some magic and get us permits to hike the "Subway." We had a late start so cruised thru it. It took us 5 hours. The group finishing just ahead of us had taken 12 hours to complete it. It was awesome.
It is a canyoneering hike- which involves rappelling down portions with rope, swimming across freezing water, and hiking thru cool rock formations. We had a really good time.
Liz watched James for us so we could do it, then she and her rad husband George made us an amazing dutch oven dinner. We've discovered good food after any arduous adventure is magnified 10 fold in deliciousness.
James and 8 month old Saywer had a good time together.
*note Liz's July 20, 2011 post on her linked blog Bates Family has more, very cute pictures. Sorry Liz- I hope you don't mind me publicizing that, but mostly I want to remember so I can re-look in the future.

James loves camping- probably because there are limitless numbers of rocks to throw.
After that we went back up to Orem, stopping to do a little white water rafting on the way. We went to Timpanogus caves (picture above), and then after dropping Randy off at the airport I got to spend 2 days at Eric's family's house for their family reunion. We joined them at the zoo, met up with some old friends, did some mountain runs in preparation for my triathalon on Saturday. It was a really nice time. The Rigbys were so, so nice. It made me love Eric even more. We are glad to have him in our family. Good work Debbie. And thanks for such a great trip.
