1 year old

James had his 1 year old check up. His weight is now down to the 25 percentile, but his head circumference is in the 85th percentile ( to be fair to James I should mention his height is 85th percentile too.). I think that explains why he is perpetually bruised. Just today he hit his forehead, back of his head, got a bloody lip, and then later a bloody nose. You see him start to lose it, then slow motion down he goes, and lands hard. Top heavy.

He also started taking consistent steps today. Up to 3 in a row. Of course I think he thinks he got to be throwing the ball to do it. He LOVES balls. Tonight my favorite was he threw the ball, took 3 steps to get the ball, then when he saw how we cheered he got caught up in the excitement of it all and spent the next 30 seconds doing a victory dance. He moved straight from his signature moonwalk-crawl, to an arch from the corner of the wall then a spin on the belly, while grinning wildly. It was like Jack Black at the end of Nacho Libre.

We got a video of the steps (but not much of the victory dance unfortunately.)

Robyn and Ron got him a swing for his birthday but he was not cool with being tied down so we exchanged it tonight for a basketball and hoop. I've never seen James so impressed with anything. We had to tear him away from it to put him to bed at 10 pm- he was so tired he couldn't even stand any more to shoot it. Just crouched there "dribbling" it and trying to shoot it.

Just because I feel like I should have some sort of pictures to offer, here are some from last week. We biked down to the historic Mickey's Diner in St Paul and enjoyed delicious hamburgers. Thought of you Kim- I think I remember you mentioning this place to me. Did you know Mickye's diner is open 24hrs/day, 365 days a year and hasn't closed for I think it was like 75 years- even for repairs? Crazy. Cool place. It s tiny train car parked up on the side of the road and is in several movies.
