Goodbye Grandma and Grandpa Thompson

We flew down to Florida so most of my family could meet James and we could be there for the farewell and book signing party for my Dad's newest release "Letters to Grandma." He had his 500+ page book professionally published and gave us each a hand autographed one. It is a collection of the letters that they wrote to my Grandma, and a family history beginning when my Mom and Dad met, told in my Dad's typically creative and "unbiased" viewpoint. Growing up my Dad's favorite phrase to assure his kids they were getting equall portions as he divied out each piece of lasagna or cake was "they are all scientifically measured," and he'd remind us he is a doctor. Of course he is a doctor of English Linguistics and how that would make him "unbiased" or any more accurate beats me, and his writing of this book is done with his same confident reminder that everything in it is written from his very "objective" viewpoint. It is fun to read so far. My parents are leaving on a 1.5 year mission for our church to Hungary. My Dad is super excited and has been studying Hungarian for the past few years (he was really hoping that's where they'd be sent.) My Mom on the hand, is not feeling so confident in her ability to learn Hungarian. Luckily she communicates without words better than anyone I've ever met. This grandchildren gathering was mostly for her I think. She is crazy about her grandchildren and horses- so this mission is no small sacrifice for her.

James is the 21st grandchild in the family, and the third grandson to be born this year- Rob's son Bryce is only 3 weeks older. I am so excited for him to be able to play with his cousins at these family gatherings.

Joe's son Spencer is only 1 year old as well. These boys will have so much fun together.
